So, just so you know, in my opinion I pretty much do every thing around here, but the boss thinks that I can do one more thing. “Write a blog,” he says, like it’s the easiest thing in the world. Okay, I am not even sure what a blog is. At first I thought he said “glob” and in some ways that makes sense. This is just a glob of the things I think about while I should be working. Making snow globes, believe it or not.

Instead of talking all the time, he thinks it would be more useful if I wrote about stuff we are doing here. 

First off, you should know that I like snow globes. That is why it is fortunate that I am here designing and making them instead of packing dog food samples, as an example. There are only a couple companies that make real custom snow globes in the United States, and we are one of them. With the way things are going, I’m not even sure there ARE other companies still making individual snow globes, we might be the last outpost. Of course, there are the high-end artisans (more power to them! I love their stuff.) and the extremely resourceful crafty folks who put bubble-gum animals inside baby-food jars and call them snow globes. Uh, not exactly. 

The thing about our custom made snow globes is that every single one tells a story. We get happy stories, sad stories, funny stories and bittersweet moments every day. You see a photograph in a snow globe and it's like you know these people. Of course, it would be even cooler to be there when someone opens the snow globe we’ve made for them, and to see their faces … but the boss says it’s cost-prohibitive to hand deliver every globe. 

So I just make up the happy endings in my head. It’s cheaper that way.
